Rooster

To create Rooster we stripped a previously opaque space to its bones and re-thought it with display and transparency as priorities. Conceiving the entire store as one finely-made piece of furniture, we tried to create a place which was at the same time inviting and intimate. The design uses space extremely efficiently, and shows off Rooster's products at their best: women's shoes, handbags, and accessories. It also has an ecological edge: green ash and poplar were chosen as materials because they could be sourced locally and selectively harvested rather than clear-cut.

Roster was awarded a Grand Jury Prize in the 2013 Commerce Design Winnipeg awards.

Silver Lotus 03

This is our most recent work for the jewelry and accessories boutique Silver Lotus. In collaboration with the store's owner we aimed for a light but rich atmosphere, developing our favoured palette of natural materials with a feminine angle. We worked with the existing structure to incorporate original exposed brick and to open up the walls to the courtyard, bringing in natural light and glimpses of greenery. Dropping the ceiling plane and breaking it up with lattices of baltic birch, we created a variety of focal points around the store. This turned a long, thin volume into more human-scale areas, making for a relaxed and intimate shopping experience.

Our second design for Silver Lotus, this store was imagined as a jewel case. We designed it with handcrafted display cases and a play of textures, reflection, and translucency. These effects were achieved by incorporating specialty lighting, recycled steel, glass,  used generously throughout the space to create new and dynamic forms -- while retaining the location's heritage detailing as a backdrop.
